Sonic Wind is a rocket powered vehicle designed and constructed to exceed the speed of sound on ice. Its initial goal is to set a new Land Speed Record on ice over the current 247 mph record.
|  | With a body that was originally designed for speeds in excess of Mach 2 and a rocket engine from a record setting supersonic test plane, the X-1, Sonic Wind has a speed potential far in excess of its first 247 mph goal.
If early testing goes well and Sonic Wind sets a new ice record, the plan is to push Sonic Wind to higher speeds. If it handles well at 300 mph, it will be pushed up to 400 mph and then on to 500 mph and then upward to its design speed of 900 mph and possibly even to 1000 mph!
Who is Crazy enough to drive this machine?
Waldo Stakes is the wild man willing to defy death and drive this rocket powered land speed vehicle. Waldo Stakes has worked out this vehicles designs and concepts for the past 35 years (in between raising three wonderful kids and working a full-time job). Now he finally has a finished product ready for high speeds. His dream is finally coming true, now all that is left is proving to the family he was not crazy.
What is keeping this great idea from being the fastest vehicle on land?
I am glad you asked. Sonic Wind has tried to find sponsorship through the major corporations and even some smaller businesses. To be quite honest a corporation can not really understand the greatness of the land speed record. Therefore, Sonic Wind is approaching land speed record enthusiasts to help Sonic Wind achieve its goal of breaking the land speed record.
What is it Sonic Wind needs from land speed record enthusiasts?
Sonic Wind needs you to be part of history and help Sonic Wind by any means necessary. This could be a donation, buying a t-shirt for support, or perhaps calling the future destination of the trial runs and tell them you will be there.
